Dislocated my shoulder, tore a piece of bone lose with my rotator cuff. This of course hindered a lot of my life and playing. Who knew that something could hurt like that!! I swear it about killed me!! LOL

So now its several months later and there's still lingering issues, including a new job working for Walmart. New idea's haven't been circulating much. I wonder if the drugs I was on stunted something?? I keep looking at my colors and not being sure if they work or not. Does that mean new glasses or just needing a new perspective.

I did get a book on how to do etching for copper or silver though to try to play with. I figured that at least I don't need fine muscle control to do that right??

In that whole thought process I found a blog from a friend that says she's giving away a set of stamps she tried and liked.

The blog is http://lorianderson.blogspot.com/2011/01/metal-stamp-giveaway.html

The site is http://www.pjtool.com/jewelry-tools.aspx

if you have used them before let me know your thoughts.. If you buy from them please let me know your results :) You know we always want other peoples opinions!!

Change Change Change It'll do you good???

Did you ever get that feeling you were supposed to move on?? That something BIG was about to happen?? Was it indigestion or just the oxyco-something talking?? I am not sure but tonight as I lay in bed waiting for the pain to disappear enough to sleep, I kept hearing that song "Change change change you know it'll do you good"...

Now mind you that was the voice in my head singing so the lyric's could all be wrong. What I am wondering is if their trying to tell me that a conversation I had earlier to day with a friend about doing something different with my website is supposed to move forward or if the meds I am taking for my dislocated shoulder are finally getting to me. I know the situation is for sure..

It all started so simply. My sister and I were doing some bonding at a garage sale. You know the best bond we probably ever does is bickering and teasing while trying to make sure we each get the good stuff at someone's sale.
Any how this sorta went like "Oh look thank GOODNESS I spent my last 5.00 cause this yellow paint is almost exactly the color I plan to do my bathroom in one day, if I hadn't spent it I would have probably felt like I was supposed to buy the paint and to the bathroom when I really don't want to yet.."
The next dang thing I knew it was 90 degree's out. I was in a tiny bathroom that faces into the sun from sun up to sun down painting it this lovely shade of "Asian Silk" yellow. I was thinking to myself dang this hasn't been to bad.. You know those idiot thoughts that float through your head and you should hear some "dunt dunt duh" music accompanying it?? One minute I was standing there painting that last 3 feet of wall, the next think I knew I was being one with the paint roller thing and that paint roller was no where to be seen. As I rolled over I thought to myself hmm. what was that noise?? OMG what the HECK IS THAT PAIN!! After panicking my entire family, my Mother ended up taking me to the ER. Where I had a lovely discussion with the DR about how much pain meds were needed to make me no longer care that not only did I pull a Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, but I managed to rip the rotator cuff and keep this lovely little chip right there, of bone attached to it, but I had also fractured the bone..

So in since August 11th when I should have been enjoying my time finally done with the census and able to work in my shop, I have been thinking about my website and those business cards I never got done because there were graphic's issues and if maybe since there were graphic issues with the cards, maybe it was a sign I should change the whole site... Right??

So if that's the point all this is leading to and it's not really some cosmic joke that I have to look at 3 feet of unpainted wall for a few more weeks while I wait to find out if their going to operate... Why is it that every thing I look at so far to change it or update it doesn't give me that feel good feeling like the site did the first time I saw it completed. I mean Chantal Paré just took an idea I spouted out and made it so much more than an idea, it was a feeling and my "shop" all in one shot. It was truly amazing... Is change where I am at? Is the reason I am not feeling the "rightness" of the change though because I haven't figured out exactly where I am with the shop right now??

If I had gone to sleep instead of getting the feeling that I needed to once more drop idea's into the great sea of thoughts, would I have forgotten it by morning and it was just a song skidding though my thoughts?? Or is my subconscious trying to prepare me for something?? Maybe it doesn't even have to do with the shop and my art??

Well on those parting thoughts...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150496831651&ref=nf#ht_3571wt_934

some lovely fall color by one of my favorite lampwork artists

and how about this lovely bit of bronze work by another friend of mine??

http://www.etsy.com/listing/56906580/bronze-and-lampwork-glass-handmade-chain

All Things Metal Clay

All Things Metal Clay

some things just need to be done....

So I wanted to do this show the 7th and 8th. I think I even posted we'd be there. But I got the chance to do work for the CENSUS and now it looks like it might just interfer... I have such a hard choice to make. Do I go with a known pay check or risk going to a show and not selling one of the 10 peices I have finally gotten done.

And really the choice is more than just that. There's a huge risk waiting on the show. What if no one really likes what I am going to put out there. Does no one buying mean they don't like it and are just being kind in saying it's pretty?? How do people deal with putting bits and peices of themselves out there for everyone to grade??

I haven't been able to get anything new made since I started doing the CENSUS thing. It's like all my thoughts are tied up with the who how and where list in my head for the "job". So does that mean that if I went back to a "real" job I'd lose what little bit of creativity I have bouncing round right now to work thoughts?? I mean I lose enough of my thoughts to soccer, the house and the gardens..

How do folks segregate it all out?? I wish I understood or knew. Maybe this is something tied into being ADD?? If I started taking the meds would those thoughts chill out or would there be a bigger mess to deal with?? All those lovely questions!! And more running around looking for homes..

Anyone want to give them a home with you instead?

Business Cards and all that excitement

WHO knew that creating a business card could be such a mind tasking item??
First of all there's the who what where and why. How much is it going to cost to get how many follows up. So I am going to go pretend to do a show May 6th and 7th at a local bead shop (Bead Unique in Olympia, WA on Mud Bay Rd if you'd like to come say HI, make sure you mention that you DIDN'T see that here btw)so of course that means I need business cards right?? Fine. So I called around locally and hacked out a lung at the cost. Then figured heck, I'll just make some myself right?? Priced that out and went well well WELL!! Of course about then I get an email from Vistaprint who's haveing a sale on their PREMIUM cards!! HOT TOWN TONIGHT!! I'll just pop on over there whip up a card and be right out to the shop to clean up some more...

5 hours later mask has come on and off the card, logo's been big, small left right and centered..

should the email and website be on the front or the back

should I do the header in color and the rest in black and white??

how long can it really take to try and match on a color slider one of the colors in the header to the font??

Is it done?? Show everyone for correction
Umm is your website really "www.aglassbash@comcast.net"?? or is that an error??
Can you make the printing larger so we don't have to squint??
Are you SURE that's centered??
Wouldn't you rather do this in another font style??
I am not sure if you worded that right...

well any how.. You pick it up and just can't get your hand to let the heck go of?? Well this summer I went to the Frantz Glass Bash in Shelton, WA held by Frantz Art Glass (Lampworking supplies and such..) http://frantznewsletter.com/Blog/?m=200907 (notes on last years Bash) Any how.. I love to go up there and look and talk and talk and talk with the different artists I know and adore. Kim Affleck http://www.kimberlyaffleck.com/beads.html does these amazing sea horse beads and I have been drooling and craving one for years now. Their just not in my price range. BUT this year I said I am going to get one of them one way or another.. While picking up and putting down and drooling over them my fingers grazed this funky thing. I was like what in the world?? Kim doesn't do Goddesses.... but sure enough there was this goddess bead in funky green/bronze tones with the most amazing copper details added. We joked and I felt it and it kept rolling around in my hand. I set it down, well I tried to set it down.. Someone asked to look at it and I was like sure! Here you go, but I wouldn't let go.. I though what in the world? I don't wear these colors even give the darn thing over will ya!! Kim was going to check something out so being nice I said I'd babysite the booth and kept playing with it. It ended up in my pocket and I just kept playing with her. It was like she had become a touch stone!! Didn't end up with a sea horse.. Ended up with a goddess named Karma after she reminded me I couldn't just leave with her.. LOL I for 3 months looked at that bead and looked at what I had. I hated everything nothing looked right. Suddenly I found this peice of ribbon. The colors just made her pop!! Step one down. Step two was realizing these little garnets I had fit that color scheme perfectly but were much too small. Wandering though Integrity Pearls on line I suddenly realized that I had to have these funky shaped pearls in a bronze tone. It was done right?? I mean what as left. Twist two strands of beads and a piece of ribbon and voila!!
I hated it.. It just didn't look right!! I took it to several friends and they all thought it looked great. Finally I found one that said, na try this!! I was like "BLESS YOU!! THATS IT!!" and she was DONE! DONE and DONE!! (Thanks Jo!!)
I hated that I knew something wasn't where I wanted it, but couldn't see it for the obviouse things staring me in the face!!
So here you all go!! Arlene has COMPLETED a PROJECT!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 92px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PYBHHvlprEA/S3SwAes9AQI/AAAAAAAAAEE/twr0EnG7Gvc/s200/feb+004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437164172431130882" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 186px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PYBHHvlprEA/S3SwhT0sZlI/AAAAAAAAAEM/JB_oizMOPwM/s200/feb+003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437164736446490194" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 144px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PYBHHvlprEA/S3SwxO_amwI/AAAAAAAAAEU/fuMd7uC581I/s200/feb+002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437165010027191042" />

Remember use it or lose it??

Here's a prime example of my theory on use it or lose it. I remember several years ago when I first met Laurie on line. She was doing these really amazing pansy beads and man I wanted some. She was using silver glass which makes the most amazing colors when done right and they were just ummy...

So here I am today logging into facebook and one of the first things I see are these!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 154px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PYBHHvlprEA/S3MQ4SPRmgI/AAAAAAAAAD0/Kd3Knjcx4g0/s200/Laurie+Donnette.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436707734320945666" />
http://cgi.ebay.com/Ever-After-Butterfly-Flight-Lampwork-beads_W0QQitemZ160401730581QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2558b02c15

which then lead me here

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 154px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PYBHHvlprEA/S3MR2fOQGsI/AAAAAAAAAD8/CYiIRbD3ofE/s200/laurie2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436708802958203586" />

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150412960608

which made me thing maybe I need to go practice something again for a while cause I wanna grow up to be like that. I mean I know she didn't just sit down and whip them out. I know there had to be a process she worked through first and that there were probably a lot of errors along the way (if there weren't Laurie don't tell me ohter wise) before she said "This is it" but wow what a this is it moment.. I think I'll go see if she's on line in a bit and pick her mind about how she got to the "this is it moment" if she's willing.

Have a good day and make sure your ears are clean and ready to hear the calling!

Intuition use it or lose it???

Ok when's the last time you did something subconciousely and thought "why the heck am I doing that???" then something happens and your thinking 'OHHHHH!" ??
Tonight I was heading to the soccer park down this hill we have that's all curvey. It's in a housing area, there's a lot of tree's and it's not lite up at all. For no reason I started to break, thinking hmm that's retarded, I took my foot off the break and THERE in the road was a young deer! Not just one now there's 4 of them crossing off the hill to the other side of the hill. If I hadn't started to break it would have ended in my truck being damaged and me crying over hurting an animal.

What happened though, is it made me start thinkin about all the times even business wise and art wise, I have done something that seemed to make no sense at all and down the road a bit the peices aligned and I went "OH!!!" I think I spend a lot of time second guessing myself though. Stiffling those little messages that say "DO THIS NOW!" for the sake of being "logical". Does that mean that art suffer's??
Is this the special "something" that other's have or find that take them from following someone elses lead to suddenly "finding" them selves?? That point where they are no longer just making something, but their creating and evolving?? Does this listening in take us to the point when we are suddenly aware of being more than the sum of our parts and peices?

I think that I am going to go look for some guidance on 'listening" to what's being whispered in my ear more... Maybe someone's trying to tell me something that I just have blocked out for not being logical that will be that last peice that "clicks"

Here's my picks today on people who found something that just "clicked" for them!!

http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=24584614

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260550349322&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

Ever think..

or scream ENOUGH is ENOUGH?? Well today was that day. I walked out since it was a beautiful day and said "wow I can clean out the shop and get it painted". I opened the door and just stopped.
Shall we count the stuff that some how FOUND it's way into the shop?? Lawn chairs, ladders, a dumped box of Christmas decorations, bricks (yes their for a project in the shop BUT), toy's etc... I looked around and shut the door. My oldest say's "Mom gonna work on the shop today?? " and of course that was the wrong thing. Let's say I had to apologize later cause Mom's aren't supposed to through huge old 3 year old would be proud hissy fits.

BUT!!! While I sat in here thinking about selling everything for a dollar garage sale on craigslist, I got the "Honey come here..."

So long and short we have 2 painted walls, the porch area is cleaned up and the car's are washed. So which do you all think is the most important?? Does make me think though cause I did get a call asking when I was going to start teaching classes!!! So which led to it?? Do you ever FINALLY do something and find that you get a pat on the back for doing it??

So I got out the card, paid for another year of www.aglassbash.com and started typing up my class list for the year. Now tomorrow let's hope we can get the floor area swept, the bricks moved in, the pipe laid, the metal stored and the counter top installed!! That will put me 10 steps closer and photo's will be ready to put up. May everything go as planned and March I start advertising for classes!! Who wants to come to an open house??

What goal do you set every year and do you keep it??

Every year I keep saying I am going to keep better records. I am going to start a file and actually PUT the stuff in it. When I sell of Pay Pal or buy off it I am GOING to make a record of what it is I bought/sold. Every year I do about the same. Some years the file gets better atttention, some years it's pay pal, some years neither of them and that means that last minute here I am trying to figure out what I bought from who, how and why and if it even APPLIES to the shop let alone wonder where I put the credit card reciepts and the inventory of what was bought off the credit cards.

I got a PDA for Christmas from my Sister and BIL (thank you soooo very much) and I am really hoping that it will assist me in some of the stupid notes I need to start keeping and maybe I can remember to do what I am supposed to be doing at the moment vice "later" like I keep saying I am going to. The only issue so far?? HOLY COW is the on screen keyboard teeny tiny!! Oh and of course there's the sorting through 8 million apps to find those that will work with my windows version (no it's NOT a phone PDA, it's a nice old fashioned PDA with wireless access only.. ) and will do what I want.. So I guess this year's goal is to figure out how to utilize the PDA to make the home/shop life intergrated and maybe even make it easier to do what needs to be done!!

One really nice thing is that it's got a to do list. I am working hard at making up a todo list and actually picking something off it to get done each day... Who knows maybe I'll get to the point I'll do multiple THINGS a day once in a while?? Now to start breaking down what needs to be done in reasonable chunks I can work with and manage without walking away going "NEVER MIND!! It's NEVER gonna get done..."

What are some of the ways you attack projects? Break them down? Are you a lister of "clean shop table" or do you say "Put away all tools on shop table" , "Clean up glass off Shop table"??
Are you a Fly Lady devotee?? or like me does she make you feel like a loser in the getting your life back under control? LOL

Here's a couple things I'd like to get accomplished in the next couple weeks/months.
1. Paint last coat of yellow on shop walls
2. Put Bricks and Pipe in for the AWESOME metal storage unit I envision
3. Take a class on how to be a better instructor (hmm where to find that sort of a class) after all SOMEONE has to be out there teaching people to be teachers. Are you all really just natural's at it??
4. Post all my classes and descriptions with prices on website so that if people find it, they know that there are classes available and what they cost. I'd like to run them by some one to see what they think first though... maybe I should find a MENTOR??
5. Find a home for all the clothing that is in my bedroom that belongs to other people in our family. Eliminate some of the kids clothing. WHO knew boys could 'want/need" 10 pairs of the same jeans let alone all those t shirts. Where do they keep coming from??
6. Finish getting the shop stuff out of the play room. After all there's a ping pong table waiting to come in!! :)

Here's my start! Where are you on yours?? Still thinking? Or are you being totally awesomely proactive and already half done??

Here's my eye candy for today!!

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39912071

A New Year and New Promises, New Wants and New Needs

Well here it is over half way into January 2010. Did you make any promises for the new year?? Did you tell yourself that you just "HAD" to do something? Was it something for your self? For your family? For your home? Are there multiples ??

I started out quite well last year I thought, think maybe. Some where along the way I lost track, lost motivation, lost the ideal maybe? I had a class that fell apart on me with lots of issues and I just kind of shut the shop door and decided to enjoy the summer with the kids. Well the goal was to open the shop back up with all the cabinet's organized, put in order and ready to have people walk in without having to avoid the metal's on the floor, the glass still without a home etc... when school started. Here it is 4 months later and the only really important change is that the there's paint on three walls that weren't painted before. I think I have said this before, but it seems like everything that didn't have a home, finds a home out there till it can get a "real" home or I get frustrated and it gets tossed into the dip.

At the first of the year I thought no PROBLEM paints up should be able to hold an open house for Mardi Gras. Now I am not so sure it will happen. LOL It appears that paint in the rain takes longer to dry than I expected so I still have to do one more layer of paint. Then it's time to put up the bricks. I think that will be the goal to finish by Monday. Paint last layer of paint, put in bricks. IF that get's there then I can do the pipe right??

How do you do your goals ? How do you bribe yourself to complete them. Are there ways that work better than others??

Hear I am thinking about where I want to go and how I am getting there. I keep telling the kids that a map helps you get to where you want to go and that without one your gonna wander here and there along the way possibly losing sight of the end goal. Can I follow my own advice? Can I start making the changes this year that will change each and every day how it turns out?

How's it working for you

I can say for sure that I haven't been doing much of anything the last couple months for some reason. I have been "planning" things. You know hunting, gathering, looking, thinking... It's like a huge fuzzy screened T.V. in my head. I hope that by tomorrow everything will be clearer so I can start focusing in on what needs to be done and what I want to do in correspondance with what I learned this weekend.

The biggest thing I learned this weekend?? No matter what you think, if you look a round a little bit there are people JUST LIKE YOU out there wondering if their the only ones that think the way you do, act the way you do or just plain are like memebers of a family you think you have lost along the way of life.

Tomorrow starts a brand new week with brand new goals. Make the up, list them out and see where you end up on Sunday next week. Maybe that's the best way to do it.

Don (my husband) thought he found a way to finally get a lot more house work out of me. I cleaned the kitchen up, cleaned the laundry room (our only door into the house right now) and the frontroom up a bit Friday. WHY cause we might have had company... Hmm Will it work??

Advertising anyone??

Tomorrow I get to go get some bricks and 4 inch pipe in order to create a storage area for my metal. WOO HOO that means it won't be all over the shop floor still too!! I might even be able to sneak in a can of paint to finish painting the walls. I am thinking as to if I could sneak in 2 can's of paint in order to start on the cabinet's when I get to it too (instead of putting it off till I can get paint sort of thing...)

I am really trying little by little to have things together and ready to open up the shop to classes Oct 1st. I figure by then the kids should all be in school, settled into a schedule so people will feel like they have the time to do it. I sure hope this isn't a pipe dream that never works out.

Once I am sure I can open doors October 1, it's all about making sure I have class outlines, class descriptions, supplies and all those things ready. Then it's update the webpage with current available classes and start figuring out where and how to advertise.

Last spring I have out 6 classes to be auctioned off or raffled off ( I think they were raffled before we in WA decided Raffles were gambling) and people were really excited and receptive.. How about NONE of them have followed through and used them. I had one of the ladies call and ask when she had to use it by, but haven't heard from her and that was like 6 months ago. Is that a common thing?? Why offer them up if no one follows through?? What are ways to do advertising that doesn't break your budget and are actually effective? I have watched my Mom do things that not one person has responded to so it's obviouse it was a waste of money.. I don't want to do the same. I guess it's off to the internet in a little bit to see if I do a search and find out any good tips..

How about you?? We chatted a lot. She helped me get focus'd a bit at times etc..

You have people who drift into your life and make a major impact then because their job is done for whatever be the reason you suddenly realize you haven't spoken to them in ages. You still think about them a lot, just for one reason or another you haven't talked... But when you do talk to them again usually it's juts like the converstation picked back up after an hours drop rather than months..

I love to make friends I am always sad when I realize I have lost one. Recently though I have started to wonder if their really lost, or if its more like they had a brief brush with your life and created a new view, outlook or even perspective on their way to another point in their life.

I LOVE Teri's jewelry it always seems so cheerful and it suites her personality..

See more at http://www.terisallwasser.com/

I'm a picture saver how about you??

How many of you save pictures of stuff you like. You don't plan on recreating it, copying it or anything. You just feel good sometimes looking at it, or the color's grab you and say something special??

I do this all the time. I am sure that it's not legal in every sense of the word copy write, but I admit to doing it where as I am sure other's do not. I always save with the picture or try to at least who I downloaded the picture from so that I can refer back to them if I wanted to ask questions or something and at times I have..

Here's a prime example. I have always, always wanted one of JMC Art Glass's bracelets. I think she's stopped doing them though and what a pity and loss to the community... If I hadn't saved a photo some of my inspiration or what ever you want to call it would have been lost. I occasionally because I see the photo troll through eBay to see if she's put anything else back up.

I have been here http://www.glassartists.org/Gal3767_JMC_Glass_Art_Jewelry.asp

but I can't find anything showing she's done recent work. Which is sad. It's just goes to show that all that lovely art would be lost if I hadn't kept it. Do you think that's a good justification to keep such things?? LOL

I hope that mayhe this shows that there is another side of people keeping your photo's and NOT using them illegally to advertise their work, copy detail for detail your work to sell on their own, and all those other sleezy actions that can happen due to it. One of the reasons I love the ability to blog now is that if I find people's work I like and I show you all here??? Now I have a photo link to it and the weblink to contact them via again..

I am wondering though due to a converstaion I recently saw, how artists feel about their work being linked to or what ever in blogs. Do they all think any advertising is good advertisting and are they flattered to no end that something of theirs, so tickled someone else that they felt the need to share it with anyone who might look??

It's been a while now..

can't believe how time flies...

Did get some work in the shop clean up and out area done. My sister found out she's got Thyroid Cancer that's moving around into other areas. It upsets me to no end. I mean she's got her life all together, it's so organized and doing the right thing... If anyone in the family got it why wasn't it me? 2 reason I should have gotten it. 1. I have already had just about everything else go wrong health wise and it wouldn't mess things up any more then they already are and 2. I at least have health insurance. Their in that lovely bracket where self employed they make too much to qualify for any assistance but too poor to make insurance payments and all, especially when they really don't have a lot of health issues.

So I have been collection odds and ends of some beads to make her a bracelet in Thyroid survival colors. It highlights the three thyroid cancer awareness colors: blue, pink/purple, and teal. Thyroid cancer survivor Cherie LC selected these colors more than five years ago as part of her volunteer contributions to ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association. She noted that blue represents the throat energy center, purple/pink represents spiritual influences in healing, and teal is a healing color.

I really am praying that they get it all and life goes back to being "normal" or at least close to it.

updated on Face Book

let's see if this works Supposedly when I post here now. Some are better than others. Some practice more than others. Do you make excuses? Have reasons? or better yet fib to yourself and others??

Me?? I am excuses and then there's a few reasons. Then I just change subjects..

I haven't gotten much done in the last week. Allergies/cold went to my chest and if I don't have a headache from coughing I feel like the dogs ran all over me.. Which gave me the excuse of being able to explore some online garage sales, tutorial sites which was all under the thought that I was looking around to make plans, research and investigate. During my play I found this awesome site that take children's story books and turns them into notebooks. What a fantastic gift for yourself to help you wind down yet keep your ideas and thoughts in order!!

                                           http://www.onegirlstrash.net/exclusives.html

no I don't get a cut if you go buy them, but hey wouldn't object to one being bought for me. I kind of want the old mother goose with the checkerboard edge or maybe one of the pictures of there. I remember there being totally awesome pictures in that book. LOL

Doing a bit of garage saleing this week I also bought some beautiful beads called Bamboo Agate from a gal I know. This is truely stunning and so unusual I wish I could find more of these but in my search I have found that I got amazingly lucky cause most of what I found isn't as nice as this. It's the most amazing feeling stuff. I don't know what there is about it but I just wanted to keep rubbing it over and over in my hands.

The one that got away?? Sound pretty exciting though

Question:
Could you tell us about the photosensitive Gold Ruby (G-221)?
Answer: Well, we're actually particularly proud of introducing the photosensitive Gold Ruby. And we're kind of surprised that nobody has grabbed the ball and run with it. We are kind of expecting that somebody eventually will do that. It's one of the first really new things that's come along in glassblowing in the last 400 years. And, amazingly enough, it's been invented by Americans, and we've really done nothing much but take the knowledge that's been produced in America and make it available to the studio glass scene. The key to the whole thing is having the correct lamp. Unless you have the correct lamp with the right wave length of light, then you're not going to have any success with it. Other than that, it's a fairly simple process. It's actually no different to a gold ruby, except that you blow it - when you blow it, it goes completely clear. When you get it, it's a clear rod. And it requires irradiation by UV light of the correct wave length. And then it requires a heat up to annealing temperature again for the image to become apparent. The color rod needs to be completely covered from UV light until it is ready to be used. You can use anything that blocks UV light. Keep it in the tube at all times. Where you're blocking the light, the glass will remain clear. Or it may, if the clear is overlaid on an opal background or some other color background, that color will remain the same. But where it's exposed to UV light and then heated, that becomes a gold ruby. And you can get extremely fine detail. You think of it like a film. It's literally film stock, but it happens to be a glass rod. You treat it just like any other rod, except you've got to keep it in the dark. But, you know, it's not so sensitive as film that you can't take it out of its wrapping and chop a bit off and blow it and put it in the color box. But the next day it needs to be kept in the dark until you're ready to put your design on it. And wherever you stop the UV, then nothing will happen. And wherever the UV is allowed to get through, then you've then created a lightened image there, which you will only see when you develop those. And developing it doesn't involve a whole bunch of chemicals like film. It just simply consists of getting it hot, as in 900 Fahrenheit roughly. It has to be heated evenly as well. If it's not exposed evenly, and if it's not heated evenly, then the tella development will not be even either. What we recommend is that people start off modestly. One of the most spectacular ways to see it work is doing like Italian cup work, where you've got a garriage. And you blow your cup on day one. Take it out of the annealler the next morning. Decorate it in whatever fashion you like. Expose it to UV light. Then stick it in the garriage. And you'll start to see it just go off in the garriage when you're ready to stick your cup on your stem. And when you go to the glory hole, it's just boomph! the image just happens almost instantly. It's really spectacular. That's kind of the coolest way to figure out how to get it to work, rather than making big pieces, and opening and shutting kiln doors waiting to see if it goes off. It's just such a quick, instantaneous, fabulous way of seeing how it works. But there's a whole work sheet on this, as you know. Where people can read all of the detail that they need to get it to work. You can find that on the website. Essentailly , when OCR receives the rods it is completely covered and taped. You don't have to be that paranoid about it . You can take it out of the wrapper. Don't do it under bright sunlight. But the sort of light that is in an average room is not going to hurt it for just a few seconds. If you break it off, the same amount as you'd break off if you were using a gold ruby, stick it in your hot box or your toaster, whatever, and just treat it like any other rod. It's just that if you leave it lying around, after a few days, you've spoiled it. And what that means is that it's lost its photosensitivity. It's just become an ordinary gold ruby. So it's not like you've done your money totally. It doesn't look like a gold ruby. It's still clear. But the moment you heat it up, it'll turn into a ruby.

Example http://www.glasscolor.com/products/default.aspx?cID=26&pID=141

Olympic Color Rods Iris Colors

I have a bunch of OCR iris frits. :) I of course have used them on "beads' and I understand how they work hot cold hot kiln. :)

BUT I really wanted to be able to use them for fusing. So today I called OCR and asked ???

I was told that they could be used in kiln work. You'd take it up to 13/1400 flash cool down to 11ish and then hit it with a flash of heat from the torch. NOW the question is, has anyone tried it, with what results?? Am I brave enough to try it??

Well first off I will tell you that I need to get a set of gloves so I don't burn the heck out of my hands. Second off. Um... Let see what happens after we get some gloves K??? LOL

Hope everyone's Mother's Day was as nice as mine. I have been trying to get their projects cooked since last week. I have gotten 4 done out of 9. Unfortunately I pulled one out of the kiln too quick and of course it broken right across the middle. No way to hide it or fix it easily. Then after I missed the work top and dropped the bottom on the floor, no need to fix it any more. Really upsets me cause it was a great looking project and now we ( student and I) are going to have to redo it. I am taking MUCH more care with the rest and not trying to hurry through them now... I should know by now (43 years mind you) that every time I try to rush things I screw them up!! LOL

I have been playing with the temp to melt them at, trying to get it to the inbetween melt stage, you know where it's melted into the bottom glass, but still has some 3-D effect to it. One projects I did 2 times trying to get it and it was still so underdone I hyped the temp up way to far getting "impatient" of course and melted it in to one nice flat peice. Next one I hiked down a bit more.. etc.. I will see if I can remember to keep track of the schedule (yes yes I know every project is supposed to have it's own sheet telling us what we did and how so we can recreate them..) I think what I'll do is take a picture of each peice to put with the notes when I make them so that I have a visual idea of what that temp does..

So far by the way I am only using Bullseye. I have some Uroboros 96 and Spectrum 96 but haven't used them yet..

I am getting ready to start messing around with the theory that can be used on beads. I think its 55 or less of another COE. So I guess I'll start looking at trying to post these experiements got or bad right? LOL

Life, death and the pursuit of crazyness

Someone told me I needed to get a blog and so I did.. I guess. I am not sure what I will do with it though. My thought is that I play and dabble as a beginner on so many things that I would start to keep track of books bought for crafts, what I thought of them, new things I bought, new things I tried and maybe even some of the stuff I have finished.

Anyone that knows me knows that I go through times of doing nothing to times of doing everything and on top of that I try to be the "soccer" mom and registrar for one kid, the stick beating the oldest into graduating and the youngest to figure out that there's more to life than thinking you want to join the army at 5.
